In April 2004, the role of the NCSC was taken over by a new body, the Healthcare Commission, which was responsible for reviewing the quality of care with reference to national minimum standards in the NHS and private sector. In 2009 following the implementation of the Health and Social care act in 2008 this role was taken over by the Care Quality Commission. Other people decide they want a cosmetic change because they’re not happy about the way they look. Teens who have cosmetic procedures — such as otoplasty or dermabrasion — sometimes feel more comfortable with their appearance after the procedure.
Has been paralleled by the development of a now sizable literature on the psychological aspects of cosmetic surgery. Because of its popularity and controversy, cosmetic breast augmentation has been the focus of much of this research. While the research suggests that most women experience improvements in body image postoperatively, the relationship between cosmetic breast implants and suicide is concerning. Other body contouring procedures, such as liposuction and abdominoplasty, are less popular and have received less attention. Even less is known about procedures such as body contouring implants and genital enhancement.
After the procedure
Nose reshaping was the second most popular cosmetic surgical procedure overall in 2010, and the most common facial surgery among patients in all ethnic categories. Although rhinoplasty is the most common cosmetic surgical procedure among males, approximately three-quarters of patients are female. Approximately adolescents received rhinoplasty surgery in 2009, making it the most popular cosmetic surgery among patients 14–19 years of age.
There is a lack of clinical or scientific evidence to guide gynecological surgeons as to the safety and effectiveness of cosmetic vaginal procedures. Liposuction, or suction-assisted lipectomy, uses thin cannulas, or hollow metal tubes, to vacuum fat from various parts of the body, usually the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, hips, backs of the arms, and neck. Male breast reduction treats gynecomastia, an enlargement of the mammary tissue in men. It may be done by liposuction or with various scar patterns, often hidden around the nipple and areola. It may be carried out if the woman feels her breasts are too small, if one breast is larger than the other, or if the breasts have changed after pregnancy or breastfeeding. Some older women opt for this treatment when the breasts being to droop due to the skin losing elasticity.

Together, research from the 1970s to 1980s suggests that rhinoplasty patients are less psychopathological than previously depicted and experience psychological benefits following surgery. These include physical birth defects like cleft lips and palates and ear deformities, traumatic injuries like those from dog bites or burns, or the aftermath of disease treatments like rebuilding a woman’s breast after surgery for breast cancer.

A girl or guy with a birthmark may turn to laser treatment to lessen its appearance. Every year, providers do more than 15 million cosmetic surgery procedures in the United States.
